When playing games with a keyboard, simply assigning W.A.S.D keys to an analog stick input may not be ideal because many games can differentiate walk and run (or sprint or slowly walk) by using different key input.
Stand alone plug-and-play USB device used with your existing keyboard to provide 360 degree analog joystick movement and an additional mechanical key as well as a hand support.Make your transition from controller to keyboard & mouse seamless by bringing part of the controller with you! Make that breakthrough to the next level of your gaming by having access to full 360 degree movement. Works as joystick, as keyboard or as hybrid (direct input) 2 profiles can be saved on the onboard memory; Adjustable thumbstick deadzone and sensitivity; Analog stick or Keyboard button mode for thumbstick; UI support for the lefties controller; Switch between 4 analog stick setups on the fly; Key combination support; Optional XIM optimized. All that means is, if you use an analog joystick for turning, you can control the speed of your turn depending on how far you push the stick from side-to-side. With a keyboard, it's literally all or nothing; key up, or key down. I've attempted to use a throttle with an analog stick. This could be anything from a traditional PC joystick to a keyboard-like device with WASD replaced by an analogue stick, or a console-style controller cut in half.

JoyToKey allows users to define different key assignments depending on how far the analog stick is pushed. In order to set it up, go to “Keyboard (Multi)” tab and select the mode “Switch depending on analog input level”.

For example, screenshot above illustrates the following input definition.
- If analog input level is < 50%, then ‘Ctrl + W‘
- If analog input level is > 50% and < 95%, then ‘W‘
- If analog input level is > 95%, then ‘Shift + W‘
Aimpad® patented technology adds full analog movement control to the traditional WASD keyboard layout.

All the benefits of a controller. All the benefits of a keyboard. None of the limitations!
We measure how far down a mechanical key is pressed using an infrared LED. The light from the LED is reflected off part of the key and then a sensor measures how much light is reflected. If a low amount of light is reflected we know that the key is at its highest point. If a higher amount of light is reflected, we know that the key is moving closer to the sensor.
By measuring how far down 4 keys are pressed we can extrapolate an X-Y coordinate to be used to generate movement data. This information can be passed to a game where it is seen as an xbox controller and allows smooth movement with game characters and vehicles.
This analog data can also be used for other things not possible on a standard mechanical keyboard. You can use analog keys to control the speed and direction of a mouse cursor and a mouse scroll wheel. You can control variable MIDI musical devices, manipulate 3D CAD objects, a jog wheel, volume control, or anything that requires a little more finesse than a strict on/off digital key press. You can also set the activation point to be anywhere in the key stroke. You can set multiple activation points in the same key stroke to send multiple commands.

Using Aimpad is like no other PC Gaming experience. It provides a ridiculous number of configurable keys and lightning quick response times of a normal mechanical keyboard. It provides the full analog movement of a gamepad while still allowing you to use the mouse. It’s like using a gamepad that you can actually aim with. It’s Aimpad!

If you find that your movement in PC Games is twitchy, abrupt, and awkward looking, it is time to use a keyboard designed for smooth analog movement. It is time for a keyboard with Aimpad technology!
